Restore Counseling — Johnson County, KS
Courtney Cauldwell, LCPC, LMAC, NCC
Hey there, I am Courtney — the founder of Restore Counseling. I am primarily an adolescent and teen therapist.
Restore has one other staff member — he’s the furry guy to the left, Dr. Aaron Beck, the resident Psychiatrist. Dr. Beck specializes in giving out doses of Oxytocin in the form of snuggles and kisses.
Restore Counseling was founded in 2020 with the hope of being a safe place for adolescents, teens, and young adults to feel seen, heard, supported, and validated.
the office
The space at Restore is different from other counseling offices. It is lit up with neon signs displaying various phrases. There are cozy blankets, a fridge full of water, a basket full of snacks, and a big jar of candy.
You’ll also find art supplies — coloring books —-sketch pads—- and games.
Talking to someone you don’t know about your feelings is hard. But, when you are playing a game, coloring, or even going for a walk, your words come out a lot easier!

Before becoming a counselor, I worked in Foster Care at Missouri Baptist Children’s Home as a Foster/Kinship Licensing Worker. I also worked in an alcohol and substance abuse facility.
I typically use a cognitive - behavioral focus when working with adolescents and teens. I enjoy working with thoughts. However, I approach each client by looking through an attachment lens. Coping skills, mindfulness, and emotions are all part of my work with my clients.
what to expect

The first (and hardest) step is to reach out. You can email me or submit a form below to schedule a session. I will respond with proposed dates for an initial session. Once we have agreed on a date, I will send you a link to my client portal. In the Clint portal, you will fill out the new client information.

My office is located off of Metcalf in the heart of Johnson County. Once you walk in the doors, you will turn left and find the waiting room. I will come to get you when it is time for our session.
-
After introductions, I will go over the informed consent, tell you a little bit about me, and explain the process of therapy at Restore. I will answer any questions you have. Then, you will have a chance to talk to me about what brings you to therapy. We will set some tentative goals, decide on a therapy schedule, and set the next appointment.

No. However, I do have many clients who have insurance. In those cases, I can provide a super bill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You would need to make sure your insurance company accepts super bills.

I recommend once every other week for most cases. In some instances, you might need to be seen weekly. But most everyone is seen on a bi-weekly basis. Some of the clients come once a month, but those are usually clients who I have been seeing for a long time and the sessions are more maintenance sessions.

My specialty is adolescence through young adulthood. I work with identity and self-esteem pretty regularly. I am most familiar with depression, anxiety, and ADHD. However, I do see clients for a number of different presenting problems.
I lean more cognitive - behavioral in my approach simply because I spend most of my time with kiddos. I enjoy working with thoughts.
I look through an attachment lens when I am doing therapy and that generally is where I begin.

Whatever YOU want to talk about. YOU are in charge. Therapy with me, is dictated by you. I do not run the session. You do.
This may feel scary to begin with. In the first sessions, I can tell pretty easily if I need guide the sessions.
It usually takes few sessions for the client to feel comfortable coming in and talking about whatever they are feeling.

It happens. It is okay. I do not ever want a client to feel like they have to keep coming because they don’t want to hurt my feelings. The most important part of therapy is the relationship between the clinician and the client. If you and I aren’t clicking, I can refer you to someone who you might find more
